What it is
Microneedling with a Dermapen creates microchannels in the skin using very fine needles. That controlled stimulus activates the skin’s natural repair process, which responds by producing new collagen and elastin. Nothing is added from outside: the tissue is asked to do the work.
Those microchannels also open a window for the actives applied during the session — vitamins, hyaluronic acid, peptides, depending on what your skin needs — to get in far better than if they were simply rubbed on. That is why the cocktail is decided at the assessment and is not the same for acne-prone skin as for dull skin in its forties.
It is groundwork, not a shop window: it works on the quality of the skin. If what you want is to walk out glowing tonight for a dinner, there are better options.

Better to wait, or to check first, if…
- Active inflammatory acne with pustules in the area: a doctor treats that first
- Active skin infections, herpes flare-ups, warts or molluscum in the area
- Moles and pigmented lesions: we do not go over them, and anything unassessed is seen by a dermatologist first
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding
- Current or recent isotretinoin: time has to pass after the end of treatment
- A tendency to keloids or hypertrophic scarring
- Clotting disorders or anticoagulant treatment, without medical clearance
- Ongoing cancer treatment, immunosuppressive treatment or autoimmune disease in an active phase
- Uncontrolled diabetes
- Very tanned or sunburnt skin
- Recent medical peel, laser or surgery in the area without discharge
- Known allergy to any of the actives used in the session
Rosacea, dermatitis or melasma are not an automatic no, but they do need a specific assessment: depth and actives have to be chosen carefully, and in melasma badly indicated microneedling can make the patch worse.
The session, step by step

Skin assessment
We look at your skin in good light, ask about your routine, your medication and your sun exposure, and decide depth and actives.

Deep cleanse
Makeup is removed and the skin is cleaned thoroughly: we do not work on dirty skin.

Topical anaesthetic
Applied and left to work. At gentle depths it is sometimes not needed.

The Dermapen pass
The face is worked zone by zone, adjusting depth: the forehead is not treated like the eye contour or the nose.

Actives
The chosen actives are applied while the absorption window is open.
- 06
Calming and protection
The skin is calmed and you leave with sun protection on. You take the aftercare in writing.
What it feels like
Vibration and heat, and more discomfort over bone — forehead, jaw, nose — than elsewhere. With topical anaesthetic it is perfectly manageable. Afterwards the skin is red and hot, like after sun.

- It is normal for the skin to feel rough or to flake finely while it renews
When you see it
The first effect is a glow once the redness drops. What matters comes later and is gradual: new collagen takes time to form, which is why this is planned as a course and judged by comparing photos, not feelings.
What it does not do
- It is not a lift: it will not tighten a slack jawline
- It does not erase deep scars or the most severe acne marks, although it can soften them
- It does not remove pigmentation overnight and, without sun protection, it is throwing the work away
- It does not deliver in a single session: anyone promising that is selling you smoke
